incipit

This contrapuntal variation of The Star Spangled Banner was a farewell gift to Jeroen van der Beek and his family (Kriss, Boris and Thijmen) when they moved to the USA. Notice that in measure 25 the viola plays (till the end) the first two lines of the national anthem of the Netherlands (the Wilhelmus) in a rhythmically slightly altered form as a “forget me not” call for remembrance. The slurs in the score and parts indicate frasing rather than bowing. This recording is by the Mlor trio: violin - Lucille Hasselaar; viola - Herbert van Essen; violoncello - Peter Garfield.
