A birthday present for my father (he is a viola player himself) in the year 1988. In the Canon the riposta (the following part) plays a perfect fourth lower than the proposta (the leading part). A performance (transposed if necessary) on other instruments than the two violas is of course, by the nature of the composition, a very feasible option. The slurs in the score indicate frasing rather than bowing. In this recording both parts are played by Herbert van Essen, the viola player of the Mlor trio.
